This is a historical diorama in 1/35 scale, I constructed and I painted myself a few years ago. It portrays a German Self-propelled Anti Tank Gun Sturmgeschutz IV (StuG IV) advancing somewhere in Italy. The kit of the vehicle comes from the company “Academy”. The building ruin comes from “Italeri” company (I improved it closing with plastic card the gaps of the walls on the back). The figure of the commander is made from resin and comes from Verlinden Productions, the other figure comes from the kit (I have just changed the head with a resin one from Verlinden Productions. All the items have been painted with oil paints over the enamels base coat. I have also used oils for the weathering procedure. The debris and the broken walls are made form scratch with plaster. The road comes from Alexander The Great company. I paint the white camouflage using a special technique (oils and enamels over enamel base coat).
The colours’ selection has been made after historical research, so that the result is as close as possible to the reality of the ERA (1943-1945).
This particular model is a collectible and it makes a great gift for any history lover and collector.
Measurements: aprox. 30cm X 20cm X 13cm (Width x Depth x Height)

Not Oils! - John Staehle - 27 February 2014
Sir,
I am the owner of Hobbies in a Barn, a small USA based model and diorama customer-ordered business. I have never used oils or any such paints in over 30 years. I use all acrylic paints and would be happy to share the success of these paints with you as I have on my two Facebook pages. And please know that I am in no way intended to compete or overstep your business as I do not favor those who would. Feel free to email me at for further discussion.
