Preface
This is the 19th Manual in our ‘Scale Modelling’ series where our aim is to bring a lot of detailed information about painting and general modelling techniques for all modellers. The books have high quality photos and detailed texts, enabling readers to easily follow the progress of assembly and painting methods and help adopt new modelling techniques and different approaches.

In this detailed step-by-step guide, our aim was to highlight just how enjoyable and straightforward building an aircraft model straight out of the box (OOB) can be, relying solely on the manufacturer’s (Academy) original instruction sheet. Whether the kit’s parts feature flawless detail and perfect fit, or if the included decals represent historically accurate schemes, falls outside the scope of this article and was not our focus.

This issue has 32 pages, instead of the usual 24, with 110 pictures. We’re covering in detail how to paint and weather a WWII American aircraft in 1/72 scale. The well-known artist Giannis Asimakos offers a detailed presentation of the assembling and brush-painting sequence with 90 step-by-step pictures in large format, so the reader can see all the construction and painting details, as well as all the paints and materials used. We have also included a table with the paint equivalents for the P-51B Mustang, converting from Humbrol to Humbrol Acrylic, Revell (Enamel/Aqua), Tamiya (Enamel/Acrylic), Lifecolor, Vallejo Model Color, and AK-Interactive

Overall, this kit offers a first-rate, budget-friendly entry point for anyone looking to enjoy their bench time or step into the scale modeling hobby. As demonstrated throughout the build process, the kit boasts very good fit and plastic quality alongside clear, concise instructions. It includes decal options for three colorful P-51 Mustangs, allowing the aspiring modeler to fully enjoy both the construction and painting stages.

We have also included photos of the builds featured on the Academy box art, giving you the option to choose a different scheme for your own project. All models were built completely out of the box without any aftermarket enhancements or decal setting solutions - resulting in noticeable silvering on a few of the decal films.
