INSTRUCTIONS
1. If you wish to remove the excess oil of the paints, we recommend putting the quantity of the oil paint that you need first onto the Brown Carton and then putting it aside inside the palette for 15–20 minutes. This will keep the oils free of dust.
2. Then, if you wish to have some oil in the paint, it is time to use the Clear pouch with the thin White Carton inside or the Clear PVC board. In this case, transfer the oil paints from the Brown Carton to the Clear pouch or onto the Clear PVC board. There you can use the oils as they are, or you can thin them down using oil based thinner (if you prefer odorless) or white spirit. This surface is non-porous, and as the palette is closed firmly it will keep the oils at the same thickening for days. A lot of people mix enamels with oils. You can do that also, but it is advisable to use a retarder for enamels. The drying time of enamel paint is significantly smaller than that of oils, but the addition of oil to enamel paints will increase the drying time a lot. Do not forget to close the lid when you are not painting or weathering.
3. In case you wish the oil paints to have even less remaining oil, then it is time to use the Thick 3mm White Carton. The White Carton will continue to absorb the excess oil from the oil paints during your painting or weathering. But the absorbing time is far less than with the Brown Carton. When you reach the consistency that you wish to keep, then you can transfer the rest of the oils to the Clear plastic pouch or onto the Clear PVC board. This consistency will be unchanged for days in case that you did not use a lot of thinner. Depending on how much thinner you have used, the drying time will be reduced, but again, the firmly sealed palette will give you some extra time!
4. The white colour of the Cartons is helping with the mixing hues, and if you wish to use the White Thick Carton again and again, you can glue the self-adhesive clear pouch on it or use the other white carton that it is already inside to one pouch. If you think that it is deep, keep the cartons inside before working with the Thick White Carton or the Clear pouch or PET Self-sealing Bag or PVC surface. Or you can use the box lid of the palette as base for the boards. To have steadier PET with the thin white carton you can glue the adhesive liner onto the edge of the lid.
5. A very useful addition is the Clear PVC board that can be used for working with oils and enamels for hours without drying quickly. You can thin the paints or you can use a retarder for enamels (or you can use the enamel paints of the bottom, not stirring them at all) if you wish. If your painting session will continue for some days, keep the PVC board with the paints inside the palette and close firmly the lid. If you use pure enamel paints the drying time is less than one hour. When you are finished with the painting or weathering session you can clean the PVC board using a kitchen paper towel and a little thinner if it is needed.
